The Disappointed Housewife is pleased to nominate the following stories and poems for the 2020 Pushcart Prize (click on titles to view each work):
FICTION:
“Destination Bulgaria” by Jim Meirose
“The Saran Wrappers” by Xenia Taiga
“How to Properly Distinguish Between a False Mermaid and a Genuine One” by Hiya Mukherjee
POETRY:
“Love Letter to My Favorite Ghost” by Pamela Miller
“On the East of Lincoln County, Washington, on Saint Valentine’s Day, 1993” by Robert Keeler
Congratulations to the nominees and good luck. We published a lot of terrific offbeat lit in 2019, and culling the possibilities down to three in each category was difficult. Each of these pieces touches in some way on the mood, style, and inventive approach we like to see in The Disappointed Housewife.
I’ll take this opportunity to encourage writers to keep trying new things. It’s a time in our culture, politics, and history when absurdity is the only rational way to understand what’s happening.
